Emily believes therapy is a powerful tool to reconnect with yourself, develop personal strengths to work through life’s challenges, and expand your understanding of yourself and others. In counseling together, Emily will work alongside you to understand your story, navigate the unique challenges of life, and create a tailored approach that works to meet your needs.
Emily draws from a number of evidence-based, person-centered therapeutic modalities that recognize you are the expert in your own experience. The modalities Emily is guided by include narrative therapy, attachment therapy, emotionally-focused couples therapy and child-centered play therapy, when working with children. Emily works through a trauma-informed, systemic, and anti-oppressive lens that strives to welcome and honor the intersecting identities each of us hold.
Emily completed her Master’s of Science in Counseling at Portland State University and specialized in Marriage, Couples, and Family Counseling. Before becoming a counselor Emily’s professional background included supporting teens and youth in after-school/summer camp programs, patient support for people navigating fertility treatment/struggles, and being a community sex educator.
Emily’s areas of special interests include working with couples and families of all configurations, as well as children and young adults. Emily also enjoys working with individuals and people in relationships navigating gender identity and sexuality, communication issues, family transitions (i.e. divorce, grief and loss, new parents, relationship styles), sexual health, intimacy and pleasure, and fertility issues. Emily welcomes people of all identities, ages and walks of life.
Outside of work you’ll find Emily tending to her garden, trying new recipes, embarking on a new sewing project, taking long walks around Portland, and enjoying the natural beauty of the PNW.
