Our Story

Family Roots Therapy was founded with a vision to focus specifically on the needs of young children and families.

Kaleigh Boysen-Quinata started Family Roots after many years of working in local community mental health agencies, providing counseling to children and families in crisis, many of whom had experienced significant trauma. Kaleigh’s experience brought to her attention that programs intended to reach young children and new parents were rarely given the resources to succeed. Waiting rooms weren’t family-friendly, providers weren’t trained in working with young children, and early childhood programs were shuffled around or shut down entirely. She noticed that many families were in crisis and seeking support, but few providers had the training to provide counseling to young children or provide appropriate parent support and education.

Kaleigh opened Family Roots, originally a solo practice, in 2017 after receiving extensive training in evidence-based practices for early childhood and maternal mental health.

Here, family is always at the root of our work as we strive to provide an environment where families thrive, feel cared for, and supported.

Our Approach

We believe in treating the whole family as a system. While sessions may focus individually on a parent or child, we cannot consider the needs of one family member without considering how it will affect the others. Parents experiencing depression or healing from trauma will have a harder time being present and engaged with their children. Parents may want to adjust their parenting styles from how they were raised but aren’t sure where to begin. Many of the clinics that do focus on children ignore the parents or treat them as part of the problem. We want to change that by partnering with parents and supporting their needs as well.

In addition to our work with parents, partners, children, and adolescents, Family Roots provides individual therapy to adults. Our providers are trained in a variety of expressive and talk therapies to support you in reaching your unique goals, whether that be exploring past experiences or navigating changing life circumstances.
